Wellspring at the Cross
Baby Dedication
“Train up your child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Why Baby Dedication?
In Luke 2, after Jesus was born, Mary and Joseph took him to the temple and dedicated Him to the God. Child dedication, just like with Jesus, is a public commitment made before God, your church, and your family. The dedication service provides an opportunity to express publicly your desire to lead and spiritually nurture your child in cooperation with the Holy Spirit, so your child will develop a desire to love God and find salvation through Jesus Christ. It also gives the Body of Christ the chance to commit to come along side of you in support and love.
Dedication in the Bible:
“She said, “Oh, my Lord! As your soul lives, my Lord,
I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to the LORD.
For this boy I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of Him.
So I have also dedicated “him to the LORD;
as long as he lives he is dedicated to the LORD!”
1 Samuel 1:26-28
What’s the Next Step?
You do not have to be a member of Wellspring at the Cross to have your baby dedicated here. We are so excited for you and that you are considering and praying about having your baby dedicated and we want to do everything that we can to facilitate that. We only ask that you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and are serious about committing before the Lord and the Body that you intend to raise this baby as a Christian, dedicating him to the Lord Jesus.
Some Guidelines.
Babies can be dedicated any age. Whenever you feel comfortable and are ready we are here for you. Often we find families that are new in serving the Lord and they ask about the possibility of having their other older children dedicated as well. Of course, they also are very welcome. A child may be dedicated until they are of the age when they can receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior by their own free will. Until that age a parent can dedicate to raising them under the headship of the Lord.
Being that we live in a predominently Catholic Community many of the people in our lives have Godparents for their children. GodParents in the Catholic church have a series of legalities associated with their commitments to the children and the parents that at Wellspring we do not engage However, we strongly encourage you to prayerfully choose people in your babies life who will make every effort to come along side of them and disciple them as they go through especially those difficult years of adolescents. Building special relationships early on can yield a place of trust and respect that your children can benefit from as they mature.
Our Mission at Wellspring
We actively seeks to calibrate, in unity, to the headship of Jesus Christ as we focus on His direction, through His Word, and revelation through the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Our children are a vital part of that call. In allowing the Holy Spirit to design the ministries that grow and are developed in Wellspring we seek to refrain from separating people by age, gender or interest. We do provide children’s classes during Sunday Morning service times but in all other ministries at Wellspring we include the children. We have found that to yeild a discernible amount of maturity.
